Creating action security structures

Actions are an abstract concept, so you must set up a structure for them before you can allocate security. Setting up security structures means two things:

Creating a new action code to secure a particular item, like a tab label.
Selecting an existing action code (including system included actions) and optimally adding another scope (module, object, or attribute) where the structure applies. You add these scopes one at a time.

To create a new action code:

Open the Security maintenance node and the Actions subnod, as shown:



Click the New toolbar button.
The action name must be the same as the security token of the item being secured. Enter that name in the Action Code field.
Document the purpose of your new action in the Description field.
Click the Save button.

By default, the new action code applies to all modules, objects, and attributes. You will probably want to change this to a more limited scope. The second part of setting up the security structure involves indicating where the action security can apply.

To define action security scope:

Select an action from the browse. The lower browse displays each place where the selected action security currently applies.
Click New.
Select the Security Structure tab, as shown:



At the bottom of the tab, define one combination of module, object, and attribute.
Click Save.
Repeat to add more locations to apply the security.
